What is a "separated prisoners' section"?

A separated prisoners' section is a reserved section with a few cells that hold up to 2 prisoners per cell.

The reason for their separation can be: maintaining national security, safety of the prison, maintaining the health or wellbeing of the prisoner or of other prisoners, preventing a serious injury to discipline and the regular life at the prison.

A prisoner shall be separated only after receiving the approval of the authorized element. After six months when the prisoner is alone or 12 months when he is with another prisoner – the jurisdiction moves to the district court.

As a rule, the conditions of the separated prisoners are similar to the conditions in other sections, apart from limitations that derive from the prisoner's separation (the prisoner stays in his cell during the day, apart from one hour of walking a day.

The movement of the separated prisoner is limited to various activities, such as employment and education).

The separation is a preventive measure, and is not a penal system.
